The attorney general's office has asked a judge to allow a special grand jury continue its investigation into hiring practices by Governor Ernie Fletcher's administration.
Assistant Attorney General Scott Crawford-Sutherland filed a motion today. He says the grand jury still hasn't reviewed all evidence in the case, including Fletcher's electronic mail, and that additional time is needed to do that.
The grand jury was scheduled to be disbanded on Friday. It began investigating the hiring practices of Fletcher's administration last June.
Last week, jurors charged Fletcher with criminal conspiracy, official misconduct and violating a prohibition against political discrimination. The grand jury has returned a total of 29 indictments in the case -- 14 of those remain sealed by the court.
