Park City Elementary Receives Grant

Students and teachers at Park City Elementary are celebrating hands-on learning.

The school recently received a thousand dollar grant from Lowe's to help it build an outdoor science center.

Those with the school say it's the only school in the state to receive this grant this year.

Meridith Parker, one of the teachers who helped secure the grant, says she wants to get her students to learn outside of the classroom.

Brian Clifford, the principal, says: "What we're going to do is add to our outdoor classroom and we're going to plants, flowers, and hopefully some tadpoles."

The teachers at the school hope this project encourages the students to take their learning beyond the four walls of the classroom.

Parker says: "You can talk about a life cycle all day long, but until they really see it, they're not going to understand it."

All of the students at the school will begin to use the outdoor classroom next year.
