Seniors at Caverna High School graduated last Friday two days later Bartley Weaver III, the school's baseball coach and former athletic director, was arrested during a road check on Old Munfordville Road in Cave City.

Kentucky State Police Trooper, Todd Holder, says "He was arrested and he was charges with driving under the influence and possession of marijuana, and he was charged with an open container in a motor vehicle."

Weaver has worked for the Caverna Independent School District for 16 years. In that time he has held various coaching positions as well as teaching health and PE.

Caverna Independent School District Superintendent, Sam Dick, says: "It's my understanding and belief that teachers and coaches are held to a higher level and accountability because of the relationship that they have with young people. And I'm really not at liberty now, to comment on the details."

According to the citation, Kentucky State Police say when they were conducting the road check, they noticed Weaver turned around when he saw their blue lights. Upon their traffic stop, they noticed a strong smell of alcohol and marijuana.

Trooper Holder says: "During the field sobriety test, the trooper indicates on the citation, that a marijuana cigarette fell from the pocket of the defendant."

According to the citation Weaver also had an open fifth of bourbon in his vehicle at the time of the traffic stop. The superintendent of Caverna Independent School District says it is unfortunate when events like this happen.

Dick says: "I do want to assure everyone that we are investigating and we will take the appropriate action as the situation warrants."

WBKO did try to contact Weaver, but he did not return our phone calls.
