Volunteer firefighters are getting some job security assistance from the state...all thanks to a local firefighter.
Several firefighters were on hand as Governor Fletcher signed a bill that will aid firefighters hurt in the line of duty.
State representative Jim DeCesare introduced the bill back in January.
The bill stems from the plight of local firefighter, Jeramie Vance who was injured in a fire on Secretariat Drive last September.
The purpose of the bill is to not only provide benefits, but to also help firefighters hold onto their regular jobs if they should become disabled.
The Governor says firefighters deserve this protection since they put their lives on the line everyday.
Fire departments and from around the state including Vance were at the ceremony.
