A police detective in Winchester, a town southeast of Lexington, is calling a brutal attack of a woman the most vicious he's ever seen. Police arrested Virgil Lee Kelly on charges of raping a local woman at knifepoint and attempting to cut off his victim's finger, wrist, and thigh.
According to a report, he then threw her from a window late Friday. A neighbor says she saw the suspect push the victim over and flip her out of the second floor apartment window.
Doctors worked over the weekend to try to reattach the severed limbs. Her injuries are described as severe. Kelly pleaded not guilty in his first appearance before the judge and remains in jail on a $100,000 bond. His case is expected to go the grand jury.
