Ozone pollution conditions exceeded the national standard earlier this week. According to Mammoth Cave National Park Officials, who monitor ozone area pollution conditions, South Central Kentucky reached unhealthy levels Monday and Tuesday. In fact they report 90 parts per billion which is high by the Environmental Protection Agency standards.

People breathing in the ozone can experience shortness of breath, coughing, scratchy eyes, especially if they have respiratory problems. Ozone pollution is usually formed during July, August, and September but its levels can peak late in the afternoon when temperatures are high.
