I have a horse rescue located in Bullitt Co. and I have seen horses that you wonder just how they are walking. To see one in this shape and to have been shot and left to die is just unaceptable. The laws in our State and the Country need to be changed to hols these people accoutable. I understand the economy is in horrible shape but if you don't want the horse then find one that does. People can contact The Kentucky Horse Council for help and there are rescues in the State like myself that are here to help. If we can't take a horse we will find a rescue or foster home that will. I wish we had more people like Ms. Edwards who will go the extra mile for these animals.

Abuse of any animal should not be allowed. Abuse to this extent should be punished by jail time.

This is probably one of the most disturbing stories, of animal abuse that I have ever viewed. Thank God for WBKO and the little lady at Caneyville! I too feel that there is some kind of cover up going on here! Who was the former owner and why has there been no mention of his/her name? I understand innocent until proven guilty but I have not even heard the word charged. All I hear the "fine sheriff" of this county saying is "Under investigation". My God, I think he has all the evidence right in front of his eyes. I'm curious to know who the owner is and what kind of connections he/she has in the county, for something like this to go unoticed before a news reporter steps in and the outcry from the public is so loud, that they have no other choice but to investigate! As far as I'm concerned, there's been more than enough time gone by. Mr. Mike Vincent you have your evidence, make an arrest and put the "real animal" in this story behind bars!

horse slaughter is not the cause of animal cruely. Its the people that have no heart or soul that causes animal cruetly. Animal cruetly will rise cause of very own blm wants to send some to slaughter to;when they are supposed to help the horses.Any person that can do this to any animal and let it stand there in pain should should be punished by law.And i don't mean just a slap on the wrist.Yes prices of hay is going up;but if you can't afford to feed the horse;sale or give it away to some one that care for the horse. The horse copy is one of the worst i ever seen.I own a horse;i do know what it cost to care for one.I would give my shirt off my back for my horse;that's how much i love her.Its not just a horse;its my friend.

Sounds like something is being cover up.This horse had 4 bullets hole;sound like he was use for a target.rather are not if horses owners can't afford to feed there horse;they should sale the horse or give it away to someone that can.The owner of the horse should be punished by law;and be reqired to pay what ever it cost to sell the horse.

There are 3 horses here in Butler County that are kept in an area roughly 50 x 100 feet. There is NO grass, NO shade and they're in the hot sun all day. I think something need to be done about these.

"I can not belive the wounderful law inforcment of edmonson co. has not responded this." saying sarcastily. This is so awful that this happen to this horse. why didnt they just take it to the sale or give it away before it got this bad. i really hope these people never get to own another animal again! and hopefully the 'LAW ENFORCEMENT" will do something about this!

Situations like this are an unfortunate side affect of the ban on horse slaughter. This ban has flooded the horse market with animals and has, like in any other market, caused the purchase price of horses to go down. Like the vet in this news story stated, people purchase the horses and then do not realize the financial responsibility that goes along with them. It is unfortunate that our government is so easily swayed by those who do now have knowledge of the industry allowing situations like this to occur.

The condition of this horse is truly disturbing. I have owned horses my entire life and to see a horse so badly treated hurts deeply. I hope that the authorities pursue this case to the fullest extent.

Like Jill - I was horrified as well. I have a friend with the Humane Society of the United States - please let me know if I can contact her for you.

Thank you for covering this story. There is no excuse for animal cruelty. If a horse isn't wanted it can be turned over to a rescue, given to a good home or euthanized. Here is another example of why KY's animal cruelty/abuse laws need to be strengthened.

I was horrified when I saw your story about the abused horse. I do hope the responsible person or persons are punished. I have horses and dearly love them.
