Hundreds of family members and friends convene to commemorate the life of Bowling Green businessman Cornelius Martin. He was one of two prominent community leaders killed Saturday morning when their motorcycles were hit by a truck.
The funeral service at Living Hope Baptist Church was punctuated by a eulogy from Pastor Jason Pettus who said Martin lived a full life surrounded by a loving family. Pettus was one of several relatives and friends who spoke about Martin's character, professionalism and constant willingness to give and help others.
Martin grew up in Greenville, the youngest of 15 children. His career began as a mechanic and eventually led to ownership of 15 dealerships in half a dozen states, including Martin Automotive in Bowling Green.
Martin served as Chairman of the WKU Board of Regents for the past 12 years. He was on the Board of Directors for the Louisville branch of the Federal Reserve Bank and the past president and campaign chairman of United Way of Southern Kentucky.
Martin is survived by his wife and three children.
