Flag Amendment Rally

Supporters of a constitutional amendment to protect the U.S. flag brought their message to Bowling Green today.

Former Miss America, Heather French Henry, and her husband, former Kentucky Lieutenant Governor Steve Henry, were among those rallying support for flag protection during a stop at the Harley-Davidson dealership today.

In 1989, a Supreme Court decision made it legal to damage the American flag. Next week, the U.S. Senate will vote on a flag amendment to restore protection to the flag.

The Henry’s came to Bowling Green to show support for the "Patriot Riders," a group doing a Pony Express run across the country with a flag recently flown in Iraq.

On April 25, members of the 101st flew a flag to mark the 30th anniversary of the day Chicago Cubs' outfielder Rick Monday rescued an American flag from being burned by protestors in left field at Dodger Stadium.

Mrs. Monday is traveling with the "Patriot Riders" as they take the flag from Florida to California. It will be presented to Rick Monday at Dodger Stadium July Fourth.
