The state may be taking over Kentucky's county jails.
The State's Corrections Commissioner says he's talking with the University of Louisville about conducting a study looking as the possibility of the state running county jails.
State Auditor Crit Luallen suggests the state is spending too much money on individual county jails.
She recommended Kentucky move toward a less-expensive state-run system.
The state has more than 80 local jails housing about 17,000 inmates.
This costs Kentucky 224 million dollars a year.
