Up to 650 Kentucky National Guard troops could be sent to U-S-Mexican border to help with security.
Governor Ernie Fletcher says he signed a memorandum with several other states to provide troops on a rotating basis.
Fletcher says the troops might be expected to go to the border for several weeks. When they come back, another group would go.
President Bush announced last month the plan to use National Guard troops at the border. Many states have volunteered to send troops, but they aren't required to do so.
Fletcher says Kentucky can afford to send some National Guard troops even though it has many already serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
