Accused murder Shane Ragland is free tonight after his father posted a one million dollar bond this afternoon.

Ragland walked out of the Fayette County Detention Center Wednesday afternoon. He was fitted with an electronic monitoring device and must stay at his parents during his release.

He is expected back in court Thursday.

Ragland was convicted in 2002 and sentenced to 30 years in prison for the shooting death of Trent DiGiuro while DiGiuro was celebrating his 21st birthday in 1994.

The state Supreme Court ordered a new trial for Ragland in March based on inadmissible evidence concerning a bullet.

Ragland told reporters his release will help him communicate better with his lawyers so he can receive a fair trial.

Under conditions of his release, Ragland must stay within 100 feet of his father's house and pay for any drug tests he receives.
