Republican David Givens received 55.4% of the vote, beating Democrat Steve Newberry.

Now, Givens speaks to us about what he has in store for Simpson, Allen, Barren, Metcalfe, Green, and Edmonson Counties.

It's one day after Election Tuesday at the home of David Givens, and today he's no longer walking the campaign trail.

"My background is in agriculture and I am proud to be involved in a family owned farm store my Dad owned thirty five years ago. About seven years ago, some other farmers and I formed the Green River Cattle Company."

Givens says his background will heavily influence his work as State Senator for the 9th district.

"Agricultural leadership is going to be one of the key things I will be focusing on. The moment I start working in Frankfort. I will be honored to have the chairmanship of the Senate AG Committee and will be working from that position to hopefully add value to Kentucky farms."

Givens says he hopes to do that by adding value to the farm product.

He uses the Green River Cattle Company as an example.

"That's a company focused on making high end gourmet beef raised without antibiotics. No added hormones."

And now Givens says he's ready to put that expertise to use.

"The magnitude of the victory we enjoyed last night is truly the result of great work from good people that responded to our message throughout these six counties and we're humbled and honored to serve this 9th Senatorial District."

David Givens adds it was his emphasis on values, including his firm opposition to casino gambling, is what gave him the edge in the race.
