Munfordville Man Rebuilds Business

Back in November, Gerry Dobson was reeling from a tornado that not only paralyzed downtown Munfordville, but also left his car dealership in ruins totaling over 1 million dollars in damages.

"Our new car and truck inventory and our pre-owned car and truck inventory was totally destroyed. About seventy-five percent of our sales and service building was, quite frankly, ripped in two," Dobson said.

After about a week, Dobson resumed his business running it out of a two-story repair facility attached to the shop and out of a 15 by 40 foot trailer with a new fleet of cars sent to him by General Motors.

He said it took many nights and days working from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. to rebuild a business that was started back in the thirties by Dobson's grandfather.

"It takes a lot of dedication. It takes a lot of determination. We endured it."

Finally all the hard work paid off last week when the newly repaired building was re-opened. Last Friday at 2 p.m. I smiled and looked at everybody and said, "the battle's over with".

Dobson says just like the city has begun to move on, so has he.

However... he admits its still hard.

"There's still nights I toss and turn. I'll be the first to admit when I hear that storm whistle go off or I know there's a storm brewing, I must be close to a window so I can see whats going on because it has done something to me. "

Still, Dobson and Munfordville are ready to begin the next chapter in history.

The people are very serious about Munfordville and Hart County and our community.

Dobson says repairs on Munfordville's city hall are expected to begin within the next month.

In addition, a new justice center will be built directly behind Dobson's dealership where a Houchens Food store stood before the twister.
