The Glasgow Highland Games this weekend are expected to draw crowds nearing 15,000. Local businesses say they look forward to those thousands of visitors spending their money with local restaurants, hotels, and other tourist-friendly businesses.
The Glasgow Chamber of Commerce estimates this week brings in around $5 million dollars each year to the community. The Chamber also says communities that surround Glasgow such as Cave City and Bowling Green reap an economic benefit as well.
Glasgow Mayor Darryll Picket says he believes weather is the biggest factor affecting the Games' bottom line. The forecast for this weekend is calling for a chance of rain on Friday night and Saturday morning.
