When completed, the Heritage Trail will be one of the many pieces of the puzzle that is known as the Downtown Redevelopment Project. Jim Bullington, Vice Chair of Downtown Redevelopment says, the trail was first conceived after a design and cost study to connect Fountain Square Park and Circus Square.

"The idea behind the heritage walk is that we will create sort of a mini Savannah where four parks will be connected. Fountain Square Park, Circus Square Park, Lee Square Park and the River Front Park."

According to Mayor Elaine Walker, one of the ideas behind the trail is not only for people to be able to walk between the parks but to stop and eat at a cafe or enjoy ice cream while walking through historic downtown Bowling Green.

"What we want is a perfect way for people to travel from Fountain Square and Circus Square and on down to the river."

Bullington says the creation of the trail will revitalize the downtown area of Bowling Green and create a new atmosphere for economic development.

"Studies have been done by various groups have determine that the revitalization of this area will create a one million dollar annual benefit to the city."

In addition to US Bank being the lead sponsor for the trail, contributing $175,000, they will also take the lead in fund raising for the project.
