WBKO is gearing up for a venture that will soon mean triple the programming options for area viewers. In addition to ABC, next month WBKO will also offer FOX programming as well as the “CW" which is a combination of the WB and UPN networks.
Engineers have been working for months installing equipment and satellites in preparation for the launch. WBKO General Manager Rick McCue says the three channel lineup will allow unprecedented flexibility in programming.
So what do these changes mean to you? WBKO will continue our longstanding tradition as an ABC affiliate, showing your favorites like Lost, Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy. You will continue to see our ABC station the way you always have.
The digital signal that allows WBKO-ABC to be seen in high definition will also allow us space to broadcast two additional channels. The question is, how will you be able to see the two new channels?
The answer depends on where you live, what kind of television you have, and how you get your signal. Those of you who have cable provided by Insight Communications, Glasgow Electric Plant Board, or Comcast will see the channels automatically. If you currently get cable from a system not listed, you can call and request that these channels be offered. If you get your television signal by antenna, you'll need a new television with a digital receiver built in or a special digital receiver that will attach to your old set.
The ABC signal will be listed as 13.1, the FOX as 13.2, and the CW as 13.3. All three stations will operate out of our Russellville Road facility.
We will be creating a new sports show for FOX. It's called The Sports Connection. It will focus on youth sports in south-central Kentucky. It will work to compliment FOX's already powerful sports lineup which includes Major League Baseball, NFL Football, NASCAR, and the College Football Bowl Championship Series.
WBKO-FOX will be offered beginning September 5. WBKO-CW is slated to hit the airwaves September 18.
