Several Edmonson county residents say they've made a disturbing discovery on Oak Hill Road.
The story several residents are telling concerns a creek they say is filled with dead dogs.
The Edmonson County Sheriff's Department confirms an investigation is underway, though they have not confirmed what type of animal may be involved or how many of those animals are in the creek.
In the meantime, those residents near the scene are sharing their concerns.
"I stopped my car, and I looked over, and I seen all these animals laying in the creek," says Janice Duke. "It looked like they had been skinned. It was horrible. They were scattered about this area right here."
Janice drives over this bridge every morning, taking her daughter to school in Brownsville.
"It's just a horrible situation for anyone to see, especially for a child to look over and see something like that in a creek," she says. "It was very visible to anyone to anyone who passed by to see it."
Janice is one of three different residents we spoke with Wednesday who claim to have counted roughly 25 animals they say appeared to be pups in a creek on Oak Hill Road.
"It just tore my heart out," she admits. "It just honestly tore my heart out. I went to the other side of the creek because I didn't want to look at them."
Janice says the animals have been here since Sunday, though she says the water in the creek has risen to where they can't be seen.
Seven residents we spoke to on Oak Hill Road say this news isn't surprising.
"The area's known as a dumping ground for animals, cats and dogs," says Amelia Gomez. "People just leave them on this road."
While residents say they don't know who or what could have left these animals in the creek, several say they hope the attention from law enforcement may lead to a change on Oak Hill Road.
"People quit dumping their dogs here," Amelia says. "They get dumped here. Some don't get fed. They end up dying of starvation."
"Hopefully, this will bring the attention to where we can be more alert of what's going on with animal cruelty," Janice adds.
