More than 36 million Americans are expected to travel over this Fourth of July weekend and many of them will spent time at several of Kentucky's State Resort Parks.

The shores of Lake Cumberland will draw an estimated 360,000 visitors throughout the holiday weekend. Barren River Lake State Resort Park is also expected to draw large numbers.

On a sultry Independence Day, hundreds of eager boaters crowded onto a busy Barrren River Lake, while hundred more fought for a spot on the beach. Park officials say the lodge, cottages and campgrounds are overflowing with visitors.

An estimated 15,000 folks will be on hand for one of the region's largest firework displays at Barren River Lake. The fireworks extravaganza gets underway at 8 p.m. Admission is free.
