Dana corporation, a company that makes frames for Ford and Lincoln SUVs, in Elizabethtown will lay off 125 workers. Corporate spokesman Chuck Hartiage said the cutbacks are a result of Ford's lagging sales and diminished production. Hartiage said Sept. 11, 2006, will be the last day on the job for the 125 employees, all from second shift.

Dana officials plan to meet next week with the laid off workers to provide information on unemployment benefits and other assistance. The workers were let go based on seniority.

On a better note, a Madisonville manufacturing company has announced it will expand its operations and add more than a hundred new employees by the end of next year.

Summitt Molding and Engineering currently is operating out of a 20,000 square-foot facility, but plans call for the company to purchase a warehouse of the same size and immediately add 24 employees. The company is expanding manufacturing of its roof tile line.
