More than 2,000 Harley riders will rumble through Bowling Green this weekend.
They’re in town for the Annual Kentucky State Harley Owners Group Rally. WBKO’s Anna Smithson caught up with bikers for a sneak peak of all the events Bowling Green has to offer this weekend.
This event was a vision of the late Cornelius Martin, Bowling Green Harley Davidson dealership owner who passed away in June. Rose Wheat, Rally Coordinator says, “We are so pleased and honored that it’s finally here as a tribute to him.”
The weekend long convention started on Thursday and will continue through Saturday. The theme of it is “Crusin Through The Cave” and the rally started with a kick-off party on Thursday night at Lost River Cave.
“It is a camaraderie of people who enjoy the world of motorcycles, who enjoy getting out and feeling the wind breeze through their hair,” Wheat explains. This rally brings HOG members from all over the state together.
Wheat says, “When you talk about the Harley Owners Group, “HOG” as we speak of most often, it is truly like one big family.”
Regular rally attendees are here but so are some new-comers. Chuck Bolton, a member from Louisville, Kentucky explained, “This is the first state rally, it was pretty close so I thought I would come down and see what it’s all about.”
“This is a passion that if you’ve never experienced it you can’t understand what I’m talking about,” Wheat expresses.
Many of this weekend’s events are open to the public. You can join other bikers at the block party tonight at Fountain Square Park in downtown Bowling Green, or shop the vendors all day long tomorrow at Race World next to the Harley Davidson dealership.
