The government says it will fine the America Red Cross 4.2 million dollars for violating blood-safety laws.
The Food and Drug Administration said the violations include failing to ask appropriate questions of potential donors and not following test procedures.
The FDA said it had no evidence of serious health consequences resulting from the violations.
The Red Cross spokesman said they are not aware of any health problems associated with the violations.
The Red Cross provides nearly half of the nation's blood supply.
