Health officials say in various animals this year there have been 18-positive cases of rabies statewide. This includes a case in Edmonson County, where a rabid bat bit a young man.
Nineteen-year-old Kyle Lindsey says he thought a horse fly had bitten him as he sat on his grandmother’s porch on Aug. 24, 2006, near Brownsiville. But using light from his cell phone, Lindsey found that the bite actually came from a small bat.
Lindsey killed the bat and it was sent to a lab for testing where officials say it was “glowing with rabies”. The night of the bite, Lindsey received several shots at the Medical Center but has several more scheduled.
