Gene Wilhoit, Commissioner of Education, says the state has made great strides when it comes to education. Thirteen years ago the state was in dire need of make-over after a very low ranking in education. The state enacted the Kentucky Education Reform Act. Since that time Kentucky's ranking has increased along with test scores.
Wilhoit says despite the recent state budget cuts in education the department remains optimistic about other programs they want to implement. Wilhoit says next year at Frankfort he plans to ask the state to fund full day kindergarten. He also says year round school is becoming a very popular choice for many school districts in the state.
