Old Country Ham Apartments, located on 31-W in Bowling Green, has bugs in many apartments, uneven floors, water leaks and broken windows. Shay Miller said she told landlord Kris Hamilton about a ripped screen in her apartment where someone tried to break in, and in his five weeks management of the118 unit apartment complex, nothing has been done. She claims she that when she sleeps, bugs crawl in her bed.
"We told him the front door was messed up, I even showed him the bathroom window being broken and it's like he don't even care about nothing."
Robert Brooks lives a few doors down from Miller, and he said the landlord before Hamilton didn't do repairs either."And he's done nothing and previous landlord has done nothing either."
Linda Mcray with the Human Rights Commission thinks that's why the apartment complex is in the shape it's in.
"My question is how is this allowed to fall under such disrepair?"
Kris Hamilton didn't want to comment on camera but gave us a list of at least 10 other rental properties in Bowling Green that he manages. We went to two on Chestnut Street. Adam VanSickle, his wife and baby have lived in residences managed by Kris Hamilton twice. Currently he lives on Chestnut Street. Before, he lived on Kentucky street for about a year. Hamilton was his landlord.
"Our experience with him has been so good."
Down the street at 715 Chestnut, Adam Gibson has occupied his apartment for three and half years. He says he's never had a problem with his landlord.
"Our screen door, a couple of months ago, messed up. He had it fixed with in two days."
Some of the Old Country Hams apartments are Section Eight Housing, which means they have to meet certain inspection regulations by The Department of Housing and Urban Development.
We'll keep you updated on the results of the inspection from this morning.
WBKO also found out, on February of 2003, landlord Kris Hamilton was awarded an Operation Pride Award for Rental Property.
