Thirteen years later, relatives of a Columbia family brutally murdered in their home can soon move on.
The Lexington man who was accused of killing Columbia veterinarian Joseph Wellnitz, his wife Beth, and son Dennis in 1993, has now been found guilty. William Henry Meece was found guilty on all charges including three counts of murder, burglary in the first degree, and robbery in the first degree.
More than a decade ago, news of this triple murder rocked Columbia, Ky., to the core. For nearly 10 years, police searched for the person responsible for this crime. It wasn't until 2003 that a jury returned an indictment against the victim's daughter, Margaret Wellnitz-Appleton and her boyfriend William Meece.
The court recessed and will return for the penalty phase at 1 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 18, 2006.
