Back in March, Eddie Paul Murphy was one of two police officers let go over what Mayor Wendell Carter called serious budget problems. In a lawsuit filed in federal court in Bowling Green.
Murphy says the firing stems from his refusal to return a weapon to a convicted felon. The gun was taken from Hildreath Young during an altercation last December. In the suit, Murphy claims Young told him that Mayor Carter would get him his gun back and Murphy would lose his job.
Shortly thereafter, the suit says the police chief told Murphy that the Mayor had requested the gun be returned. Murphy says he refused to do so after consulting with the Commonwealth's Attorney, it wasn't long after that that he was out of a job.
Murphy is now suing for a jury trial and compensation of lost wages. A lawsuit represents only one side of a case.
