Although the first day of school for students in Simpson County is more than a week away, some of the students are getting a "jump start" with their studies.
Around 50 students from Simpson and Franklin Elementary are attending the school system's Jump Start Program.
The program is for first, second and third graders who go through two weeks worth of classes for half a day. The purpose of the program is to make the transition to school easier and to review beginning skills.
The first day of school in Simpson County is Monday Aug. 4. The school system follows a year round school calendar.
