FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- A familiar name in Kentucky retailing could end up on the election ballot next year.

Richard Dawahare, a lawyer who spent 28 years in his family's clothing business, said Monday he is considering seeking the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate next year.

The 53-year-old Dawahare of Lexington said he has always had an interest in public service and is exploring a number of options, including the Senate race.

Dawahare is the latest of several Democrats to express interest in the race. Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo already has announced that he is running. Attorney General Jack Conway and state Auditor Crit Luallen have said they are considering the race.
