A New Law Restricting Sex Offenders has Opposition

A new Kentucky law restricting where sex offenders can live has prompted a federal lawsuit.

The federal lawsuit contends the new law is so rigid that it will require offenders to move from nursing homes, court-ordered treatment centers, jails and prisons. The statute applies to offenders even if they are no longer on probation, parole or any type of judicial supervision. There is no exemption to the requirement that offenders must move by Nov. 11, 2007.

The lawsuit also says that the law puts many small towns completely off-limits and banishes offenders from portions of the state's largest cities. The lawsuit is seeking an injunction blocking enforcement of the statute.
