The Medical Center will construct a $56 million dollar, six story tower that will house 75 private care rooms.
Now the hospital will be able to redistribute 19 of its currently licensed beds in addition to adding more to the new expansion.

Medical Center Vice President, Doris Thomas says there are several reasons, such as population growth and seasonal influxes, that led to the decision to add on.
"Often the winter season the census is much higher, volume is much higher and often we bump up against our capacity as many other hospitals do."
The new wing will add close to 120,000 square feet to The Medical Center's current facility.
The addition of a new wing will also create 110 new jobs with a new annual payroll of $7.2 million dollars.
Thomas says before the new wing can be built, they have to get final approval from the state.
She says she hopes the tower will be up and running by 2010.
