A Knoxville police officer was hospitalized after being rear-ended by a truck driver from Kentucky.

Just before two today, KPD officer Tim Edwards was sitting in his police cruiser on Interstate 40 outside Knoxville having just finished writing a ticket to another motorist.

A semi-truck driven by 40-year-old Rice Gill, of Allensville, hit a retaining wall and crashed into the cruiser.

Edwards was taken to the University of Tennessee Med. Center, treated and released.

His cruiser suffered heavy rear-end damage.

Gill was not injured, but was taken to the hospital to give a blood sample, and police charges are pending.
