Governor Fletcher has directed flags at all state office buildings at half-staff to honor another Kentucky soldier who paid the ultimate sacrifice for his country.
The Department of Defense said Specialist Windell Simmons of Hopkinsville, Ky., died of injuries he suffered on Sept. 23, 2006, in Iraq. A bomb exploded near his vehicle during combat operations.
Simmons was assigned to the 4th Infantry Division at Fort Hood, Texas. Flags will remain at half-staff through sunset of Simmons’ funeral.
