STANFORD, Ky. (AP) -- A central Kentucky coroner says a 24-year-old Ukraine native has been identified as the victim found in burning car earlier this week.
Lincoln County Coroner Bill Demrov identified the victim as Oleksander "Alex" Tysbulko, who was doing an internship at the Hagyard Equine Medical Institute in Lexington.
A report in The Advocate-Messenger says the coroner determined Tysbulko died of smoke inhalation in the incident early Sunday morning. Kentucky State Police say his body was found burned in his vehicle on the side of Kentucky 39 in the Preachersville community about 4:30 a.m. EDT.
State police say they believe Tysbulko's vehicle got stuck in a ditch and he was unable to get out. Police believe he crawled into the back seat and lit a cigarette that may have started the fire.
