Kentucky Welfare Fraud

A special grand jury report released this morning, says the state’s welfare system is plagued by widespread fraud and it has cost the state millions of dollars.

The grand jury found that some of the welfare money was re-directed by the state employees, responsible for getting it to needy Kentuckians. In other cases, welfare recipients collected more from the state than they were eligible for.

Ten people have been indicted on a total of 136 felony counts of fraud of public assistance programs, forgery and perjury. The special grand jury made 11 recommendations to remedy the problem.
