A soldier who fled from the military to Canada is planning to turn himself into military authorities on Oct. 3, 2006, in Kentucky.
Army Specialist, Darrell Anderson went to Canada last year rather than serve another tour. An attorney for Anderson said an officer at Fort Knox tells him that the Army has decided not to court martial the soldier.
Anderson was wounded and received the Purple Heart while serving in Iraq with the 1st Armored Division. He said he left the country because he no longer supporter the Iraq war.
“I believed it was my human right not to kill innocent people and I wasn’t at the state of mind to go back to prison or back to Iraq and basically Canada was what saved my life at the time,” Anderson said.
Anderson had been living in the Toronto area. He has called a news conference for tomorrow at noon in Radcliff, Ky.
