More than forty thousand deer have been harvested so far this month and that number is expected to double with the start of modern gun season this past weekend. Meat processing plants all over Kentucky are busy taking orders from this past weekend. Many hunters were dropping off meat to be processed after hunting all weekend.
For Deer hunters who may have harvested extra deer you can donate the meat to a statewide program called "Hunters for the Hungry." Hunters can drop off the deer at the designated processing plants where it will then be distributed to needy families. Last year more than a thousand deer were donated.
