BRASS Check Presentation

An area church makes a generous donation to an organization that helps women safely escape abusive relationships.

First Christian Church in Bowling Green presented a check to Barren River Area Safe Space worth $10,000 today. BRASS is an emergency shelter for abused women and their children.

Senior Minister, John Wesley said, “We decided that would be a good place to make an investment and encourage and help others that were trying to get a new start in life.”

“This is a wonderful contribution to the shelter and really a prime example of what we call faith in action where faith based communities got together and decided a worthy cause and that this money will help hundreds of families leave abusive homes,” BRASS Executive Director, Lee Alcott said. Alcott also stated that money will go into an emergency assistance fund and will help women and their children become more self-sufficient.

October is recognized as Domestic Violence Awareness Month across the country. BRASS will hold its annual candle light vigil Tuesday, October 24th at 6 PM in Bowling Green’s Fountain Square Park.
