Dr. Rand Paul Ready To Enter Primary For Bunning's Seat

Rand Paul, son of former Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, says he is poised to enter the race for U.S. Sen. Jim Bunning's seat.

Paul, who has been stumping across Kentucky, told The Associated Press that "every bone in my body says there is going to be a race." But the Bowling Green physician said he won't run unless Bunning opts out.

Paul is a fan of Bunning's conservative fiscal philosophy and said he simply wants to be ready to jump into the race quickly if the 77-year-old senator decides to retire instead of seeking re-election next year.

Bunning has said repeatedly that he intends to run for a third term.

Having read Thomas' comment, I must state that such comments frequently come from left-leaning individuals, who, instead of focusing on the macro, get mired in the micro, and eventually wind up debating themselves into exhaustion, without even getting a foot off the ground. As a Libertarian, I have had the opportunity to meet many Americans (Libertarians), whom focus on the macro issues and leave the micro debates for the left-leaners to muddle and worry over.

Having read the the Paul's Libertarian views and as a left of center person I become confused because I seem to agree with many of your Libertarian ideas, yet disagree with others. For example, how do we go back to a gold standard when even silver certificates were replaced with federal reserve notes in the 60s? How will the withdrawl of government from health care lower costs due to free markets? Will medical schools not limit the number of doctors graduating, thus causing the costs to continue to rise? On the other hand to your credit, how do you measure the standard of wealth, your real estate, your savings, stocks, etc. if there is no standard, i.e. gold? Then again maybe with 21st century information technology can the AMA control the number of doctors because so many are trained in medical schools outside the USA. Dr. Paul, good luck if Sen. Bunning doesn't seek reelection. People who follow the Paul's politics know that we always know where you stand.

If Rand Paul has half the courage, integrity and commitment to freedom his father has, he'll be twice as qualified as anyone else running. Kentucky and the entire country would be fortunate have him in the Senate.
