Kentucky State Police are urging motorists to use caution during deer hunting season, which runs from October through December.

Police said each year vehicle crashes involving deer kill 150 people nationwide and cause $1 billion in vehicle damage. Here are some tips for during the season:

  • Be extra cautious during early morning and evening hours.
  • Stay alert during known deer-crossing zones.
  • Upon seeing a deer, immediately slow down and don’t swerve.
  • Also always wear your seat belt.
