A Kentucky teacher is among 20 winners named to the USA Today All-USA Teacher Team.
Cumberland Trace Elementary School kindergarten teacher Patrice McCrary is the only Kentucky teacher to top the list. McCrary was nominated for the award by principal doctor Mary Evans. Principal Evans said McCrary has found in her 19 years of teaching that if she incorporates parents into their child’s academics, they become a stronger teaching team.
McCrary said, “We are a team, it’s not just me as a teacher them as a parent but together the parent teacher team is learning.”
McCrary invites one family at a time into her classroom at the beginning of the year. She said the initial connection is vital to a student’s success. She also believes being accessible at all times is important.
This isn’t the first time McCrary has been honored with a teaching award. In 2003 she was named Kentucky Elementary School Teacher of the Year and Kentucky Teacher of the Year.
All members of the All-USA Teacher Team will receive a trophy and will share a $25,000 award with their school.
