As part of Western Kentucky University's homecoming week a big name is holding a concert tonight at Diddle Arena.

Western's Campus Activities Board has brought in the Randy Rogers Band, Miranda Lambert, and Dierks Bentley, all well-known country musicians.

Concerts and special events are not uncommon on Western Kentucky University's campus.

The Campus Activities Board is an organization that helps bring talent to WKU.

"We work with a great talent agency that gives us ideas, the students come up with ideas and we just kinda go with whatever really looks like it's gonna work for the venue, for the university, and for the student population,” says CAB advisor Azurdee Garland.

It seems the concert set to take place on WKU's campus with some of country's up and coming names is a show that many students and community members just don't want to miss.

"It's one of the largest shows. It's the largest show the Campus Activities Board has done in the last five years,” says Garland, and ticket sales are the proof.

"We're selling 5,000 seats and right now we've sold two-thirds of those tickets and primarily more than one-half of those tickets have gone to students,” says Garland.

If all goes well with this show, those with the Campus Activities Board say more well-known names could be coming to Western in the future."

"As a matter of fact for next semester we're already working on a February show. It's an R&B /hip-hop kind of genre and then for April we're doing Jeff Durham and the ventriloquists coming in and he's a very large, well-known comedian. We're also in talks with Jerry Springer for next homecoming,” says Garland.

Azurdee Garland says not only are events such as these concerts and activities getting the attention of current and potential students, it's also giving the community the chance to see these shows.

"It's just another one of those ways of bringing in someone that the community also wants to see to get folks to come to campus and enjoy themselves,” says Garland.

The doors at Diddle Arena will open tonight at 7:00 PM for the show.

Tickets can still be bought at the door and are $23 for WKU students and $33 for the public.

Dierks Bentley is also up for male vocalist of the year for the Country Music Awards airing November 6th right here on WBKO.
