A writer with Kentucky ties is coming to Western Kentucky University to give a reading of his work.
Greg Downs spent his childhood between Elizabethtown, Ky.; Eastern Kentucky; Nashville and Hawaii.
He said he left for college feeling like he had to separate himself from his past, but now he embraces it.
Downs is an assistant professor at City College of New York.
In his newly released collection of short stories, "Spit Baths," he drew from his boyhood memories of Elizabethtown.
The work earned Downs the Flannery O’Connor award for short fiction. He’s expected to give the reading at Western on Nov. 16, 2006, at 7 p.m.
