The Kentucky Association for Economic Development, known as KAED, is having it’s annual conference this week and there’s been a wide variety of topics in the field of economic development.

KAED president Mike Mangeot began by explaining, “We’re talking about how to build spec buildings...union awareness... how to make an RFP... and to GIS map...Geographic Information System.”

This year’s keynote speaker from South Carolina is a leading site selector for companies world wide. He focused on what Kentucky can learn from other states when it comes to economic development.

Keynote speaker Ed McCallum quoted, “Speaking of education... and workforce development... there is no greater threat to the US economy than realizing that... and I showed examples of what others are doing.”

Governor Fletcher is attending the conference tonight to present 2006 Economic Development Leadership awards and among those being honored are John Hindman of Louisville, VP of Public Affairs for UPS Airlines and Dr. James D. Votruba, president of Northern Kentucky University.
