Six Kentucky hospitals are participating in a national study to find better methods to cut premature birth rates.

The study is a result of a partnership by March of Dimes, The Johnson & Johnson Pediatric Institute, and the Kentucky Department for Public Health. March of Dimes President, Doctor Jennifer Howse said the lifetime consequences of premature birth can be devastating.

About 14 percent of all live births in Kentucky are premature. The United States average is 12.5 percent.
