The best way to get your family though an emergency is preparation.
That's why the Barren River District Health Department will simulate an emergency situation this weekend. The health department is giving out 500 free flu shots in a short period of time to test their preparedness for an emergency response plan.
"In event of emergency where we have to open up a mass clinic we're going to have to vaccinate eight counties, that's 230,000 people," said Janarae Conway, disaster preparation coordinator.
Conway also said they need to be prepared to vaccinate our population for at least two to five days.
This weekend, if there are problems, the Barren River District Health Department will know what they need to do better to serve the surrounding eight counties in South Central Kentucky during an emergency.
