A soldier from the 101st Airborne Division pleads guilty to raping an Iraqi teenager, before helping to kill her and three of her family members.
The attorney for Specialist James P. Barker said his client’s confession was offered in exchange for a lighter sentence. He will not receive the death penalty.
Barker has agreed to cooperate with prosecutors in providing testimony against three other soldiers and a former Army private also charged in the attack.
Earlier today the Army arraigned Sergeant Paul E. Cortez on rape and murder charges for the same incident.
