A 101st Airborne Division soldier has been sentenced to 90 years for conspiring to rape a 14-year-old Iraqi girl and killing her and her family.
Specialist James Barker pleaded guilty on Nov. 15, 2006, and agreed to testify against three other soldiers involved to avoid the death penalty.
Barker does have a possibility of parole in 20 years and showed no reaction when the sentence was read but wept during his closing statement.
Military prosecutors declined to comment after Barker’s sentencing because three other soldiers have yet to be tried in the case.
