UK and U of L Tuition Hike

The University of Kentucky will be limited to 9 percent tuition and fee hike next year. That’s the lowest potential increase approved by the executive committee of the council on post secondary education.

The University of Louisville will be able to raise tuition and fees as much as 12 percent, while other state universities will be held to a 9.5 percent increase, and the community college system will be allowed 9.2 percent.

The post secondary council president said U of L was given a larger potential increase than other public schools because it didn’t receive as many of its budget requests during the legislative session this year, and he said because U of L is a research institution, it’s more expensive to operate.
