A federal referral may be sought on information gathered during a special Grand Jury’s investigation of Fletcher administration hiring practices.
Assistant Kentucky Attorney General Pierce Whites says a decision about whether to refer the case to the US Department of Justice will probably be made within 90 days. He says similar cases in other states have been probed at the federal level.
Jodi Whitaker of the Governor’s office said yesterday there will be no comment from the Governor on the matter. Less than two weeks ago, the special Franklin County Grand Jury that investigated the hiring practices issued its final report and disbanded.
In its report, the Grand Jury alleged that Fletcher approved a widespread and coordinated plan to violate merit hiring laws that protect rank-and-file workers from job discrimination because of politics.
